The toutouwai / North Island robin translocation project is a project aimed to bring toutouwai back to Taranaki maunga so their song may once again be heard within the Egmont National Park.
Over the months of March and April 2017, DOC staff, iwi and volunteers will catch toutouwai in Pureora Forest Park in the central North Island and release them on Taranaki maunga. The volunteers will attend a series of training days to familiarise themselves with feeding the toutouwai and earning their trust and confidence in order to carry the birds safely to Taranaki.
The project is currently being administered by the Department of Conservation with support from the Taranaki Mounga project, the NEXT Foundation and iwi.

9th – 11th April 2017 catching and translocating 20 birds (travel, kai and accommodation provided)
Second release date on Taranaki maunga

Post release feeding on Taranaki maunga
