The first Taranaki Maunga negotiations update and workshop for Te Atiawa was held at Muru Raupatu marae on Friday 7 April.
The wānanga was facilitated by Hemi Sundgren, Liana Poutū and Jamie Tuuta who are also a part of the negotiation team.
- There were two fundamental components of the negotiations presented at the hui –
Te Mana o te Maunga, which covers aspirations relating to recognising Taranaki as a tupuna and promoting and protecting his health and wellbeing, and
- Te Mana o Te Kāhui, which covers aspirations in recognising the mana of ngā iwi o Taranaki in relation to our tupuna.
Those who attended were able to get updates on the negotiation process and seek clarity on matters of concern.
Furthermore, there was an opportunity for uri to discuss the fundamental components of the maunga negotiation and share their thoughts and ideas on what the success of a maunga settlement might mean to them and the importance of sharing kōrero that could be used to form part of the negotiation.
The hui was the first in a series of updates and workshops which will be held over the coming months as the negotiations progress.
We’ll send out updates on where and when the next hui will be and will continue to send out pānui from the Maunga negotiations team, so stay tuned.
