Last week Te Kotahitanga o Te Atiawa (Te Kotahitanga) confirmed its purchase of Education House in New Plymouth from Toitū Te Whenua, Land Information New Zealand (LINZ).
Te Kotahitanga have plans to demolish the building before the end of the year.
Located on the corner of Eliot and Courtney Streets in New Plymouth, this six-storey building has been assessed as an earthquake risk and has been untenanted since 2011.
Liana Poutu, Chair of Te Kotahitanga o Te Atiawa, says this purchase is another investment which supports the entity’s long-term commercial, cultural, social and environmental aspirations.
Temporary fencing has been erected around the building to secure the site as preparations begin for its safe deconstruction by Nikau Group.
Te Kotahitanga are currently looking at a number of development options for the site.
As part of its treaty settlement, Te Kotahitanga took up the Deferred Selection Property to purchase this building.
